Yvette Davis's Personal Philosophy of Library Services
The school library media center serves the school in a variety of ways: as classroom; as collaborative venue; as location for utilizing technology. Above all, the library is a place of information access, intellectual freedom, and learning. The school library program is integral to carrying out the school’s mission, and the purpose of the teacher-librarian is to serve as both teammate and coach within the school setting. As instructional leaders, teacher-librarians assume responsibility for the success of teachers and students. They recognize the potential in both people and new tools, and pursue ways to harness this potential to promote student achievement. Teacher librarians support the school’s mission by doing the following:
- Engaging in collaborative activities that support information literacy and the curriculum;
- Assuming co-teaching roles that advance teacher and student excellence;
- Facilitating technology implementation among administration, teachers, and students;
- Advocating for the school media program, promoting its unique capacity to move everyone toward the school’s vision;
- Developing and maintaining services that support lifelong learning.
